MAKE THE UNSEEN HARDER TO IGNORE.
Boldly Unseen began with my daughter, and the things people don’t see.
I’m Justine, the founder. My daughter was born with conditions affecting her vision and hearing. This is the world she has always known. She learns, makes friends, has ambitions and gets on with life in her own way.
As her mum, I also see the effort that can go unnoticed.
I see her struggle quietly. I see the hesitation about asking for support, and the worry that doing so will make her stand out. Sometimes, getting through something takes far more from her than anyone around her realises.
Because her difficulties aren’t always obvious, people can assume she has understood, heard or seen everything. They may overlook an adaptation that would help, or question a need because she managed something else independently.
Those assumptions can leave her carrying the difficulty herself.
WHY I’M BUILDING BOLDLY UNSEEN
I want my daughter to know that her needs deserve to be heard. That asking for support is something she is allowed to do. That being different belongs in everyday life.
I’m building Boldly Unseen to show her that the experiences people overlook can become the starting point for awareness and change.
A bold statement can make someone pause. A question can challenge an assumption. A conversation can help someone understand why an adaptation matters.
I want those moments to reach beyond a shirt: into classrooms, workplaces, shops and the way we treat each other.
DISABILITY BELONGS IN THE CONVERSATION
Disability still makes some people uncomfortable. They may avoid talking about it, make assumptions, or focus so heavily on a condition that they forget the person.
We need more ordinary, honest conversations.
Conversations about what someone experiences. What makes something accessible. Whether help would be welcome. And why a person’s abilities can exist alongside their need for support.
Normalising difference also means making room for different ways of learning, communicating and taking part.
My daughter’s experience is one perspective. Other people will have different needs, frustrations and stories. Listening to that range of experiences is part of what this brand is here to encourage.
A STATEMENT WITH SOMETHING BEHIND IT
Boldly Unseen brings bold clothing together with clear information and lived experience.
Each statement shirt includes a QR code within its front design. It leads to a short page exploring the meaning behind the words, giving people somewhere to take their curiosity further.
Our Real Voices page makes space for people to share their own experiences and perspectives. Those voices help turn a general conversation about disability into something people can understand and connect with.
Our first collection focuses on blindness and visual impairment. As the brand grows, I want the people whose experiences we explore to help shape the conversation.
THE CHANGE I WANT TO SEE
I want more people to ask rather than assume. More willingness to make adaptations. More understanding that someone can appear to be coping while still needing support.
Above all, I want my daughter to grow up knowing that she belongs, that her voice matters, and that she can ask for what she needs.
Boldly Unseen is an independent clothing business with awareness at its heart. Our learning pages and Real Voices are open to everyone.
Wear a statement. Explore a perspective. Start a conversation.
