A STATEMENT. A QUESTION. A CHANCE TO UNDERSTAND.

  1. A statement

A statement on a shirt makes you stop and think.

  2. A question

Ask the wearer before scanning, then point your phone’s camera at the code and tap the link.

  3. A chance to understand

Read the short explanation behind that statement, then hear from people with lived experience.

Find your statement in the collection above, or explore the stories behind all four shirts below.

Each shirt brings the statement, Boldly Unseen branding and QR code together on the front. Ask the wearer before scanning. Open your phone’s camera, point it at the code and tap the link to explore the meaning behind the statement. No special app or account needed.

START UNDERSTANDING

You don’t have to know everything about sight loss to treat someone well. Three short guides cover what people most often get wrong.

Blindness is a spectrum

‘Blind’ does not always mean seeing nothing. Learn why someone can look at a phone, make eye contact or navigate a familiar place and still be blind or partially sighted.

‘You don’t look blind’

Fair question: what were you expecting? Find out why appearance tells you very little about someone’s vision.

How to offer help

The shortest useful script: ‘Would you like a hand?’ Then follow the person’s answer. No grabbing, guessing or surprise steering.

BLIND ISN’T ONE WAY OF SEEING.

Some blind people have no useful vision. Others see light, shapes or parts of a scene. Sight can change with lighting, distance and the day. You cannot tell what someone sees from how they look, whether they use a phone or whether they meet your eyes.

WHAT WE WISH YOU KNEW

The most useful explanations come from the people living them.

Real Voices is a home for short, moderated contributions from blind and partially sighted people, in their own words.

HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY?

A myth you’re tired of hearing. A small thing someone got right. A truth that deserves a bigger audience. We’d like to hear it, on your terms.
